Commonwealth Games Athletics – Marathon
July 30 @ 12:00 am
The marathon is a singular event not only in athletics, but in wider sport. Athletes must not simply endure for 26.2 miles, but excel across it, in an effort to win this ancient race. The men’s marathon took place at the inaugural 1930 Commonwealth Games, and has returned at every Games since. The women’s race has featured since 1990. Birmingham 2022 will also host men’s and women’s wheelchair marathons.
Fans rarely get a chance to see athletics and para athletics as intimately as during a marathon: routes tend to snake around cities, offering spectators multiple chances to see the stars and cheer on the stragglers! The route for the Birmingham Games is expected to be no different, providing a unique chance to see this iconic race.
The finish line for the Birmingham 2022 marathons will be in Victoria Square, in the centre of the city.
