Commonwealth Games Cycling – Track and Para Track
July 29 @ 12:00 am

Whether its the banked, wooden track, the pointed, aerodynamic helmets, or the sheer speed of the races, track cycling is a sport laced with iconic quirks, images, and athletes. Though it is technically an optional element of the Commonwealth Games programme, it is thankfully a stalwart of the Games – track cycling has been staged consistently since 1934, and para track cycling has been included since 2014.
There are many disciplines which take place in track cycling venues – which are called velodromes – and Commonwealth competition is therefore always fierce, particularly amongst Australia, New Zealand, and England. Of just over 200 gold medals given out since 1934, Australian athletes have claimed more than 100!
Although it is still a bona fide part of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games programme, the track cycling and para track cycling events will take place in London, at the Lee Valley VeloPark.
