Hockey & Ice Hockey

The Elite Ice Hockey League is the top division of ice hockey in the UK. It features ten teams: Cardiff Devils, Glasgow Clan, Dundee Stars, Sheffield Steelers, Coventry Blaze, Belfast Giants (actually based in Whitley Bay), Manchester Storm (also actually based at Cardiff’s Ice Arena), Fife Flyers (the only team not to play in England or Scotland), Nottingham Panthers and Guildford Flames.

Each season lasts from September through April with 42 games played over 11 weekends followed by a play-off competition with each team playing four more games before the winning side gets promoted to the next division and so on until there’s just one winner left standing.

British ice hockey is on the up - and it's a great family day out for not much more than a cinema trip.

British ice hockey is on the up. Last season, there was a record number of new kids taking up the sport and parents are getting into it too. The EIHL is a great family day out – and you don’t have to break the bank either.
The game itself is fast-paced and action-packed, with teams combining to score goals by hitting a small rubber disc (the puck) into their opponent’s net. It can be played in front of a live audience at one of many arenas across Scotland, England and Wales – or at home!

Ice hockey games are a great family-friendly day out. When you’re not watching the action on the ice, there are often giveaways and entertainment between periods to keep you entertained. One thing that sets ice hockey apart from other sports is that it has music during play—you’ll hear it as soon as each period ends. This can sometimes be confusing for fans who are used to hearing only silence while players are off the ice and resting, but they quickly get used to it and enjoy how the music adds an extra touch of excitement to the game.

As always, when attending any sporting event with your kids in tow, remember that they’ll likely become restless after several minutes and want something else to do or see. If this happens at an ice hockey game, try taking them over toward one of the many concession stands where they can grab a drink or snack so that you can keep your eye on them without losing sight of what’s happening on the ice for too long (or having them run around aimlessly).

Club arenas are smaller than their NHL counterparts, which makes for a unique atmosphere - and keeps ticket prices low.

The EIHL is the perfect place to watch ice hockey. An average club arena is smaller than its NHL counterpart, which makes for a unique atmosphere and keeps ticket prices low. The experience of watching a game in such an intimate setting really leaves you feeling like you’re part of the action.
You’ll also find that tickets are affordably priced—so much so that they’re often cheaper than going to a movie or theme park on your day off! And with this being Britain’s only professional league, it’s never been easier to get good seats without having to pay top dollar or wait months for them go on sale. If you haven’t tried out ice hockey before now, then what are you waiting for?

Get involved in one of the best-kept secrets of British sport!

The EIHL has more than doubled the number of UK teams it has since its first season in 2003. At 6 teams, then doubling to 12 in 2019, the league is showing no signs of slowing down as it continues to grow and attract more fans each year.
Never been a better time to get involved: With 10 teams across seven cities across the UK, there’s never been a better time to get involved with ice hockey! If you’re new to ice hockey as a fan or player then now might be the perfect opportunity for you!

Ice hockey is a fast-paced, exciting sport and a great family day out. If you’re looking for a fun, affordable day out then look no further than the EIHL. We can’t wait to see you at an ice hockey match soon!
