The world-renowned Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo is coming to the Georgia International Horse Park on August 4th, 2024! This international event will showcase the best of traditional rodeo events such as bull riding, steer wrestling, and barrel racing, as well as unique competitions honoring the legacy of legendary cowboy Bill Pickett.
Spectators from all over the globe will gather to witness top rodeo athletes from around the world compete for glory and cash prizes. With heart-pumping action and thrilling displays of horsemanship, this event is not to be missed.
But the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo is more than just a sporting event. It also celebrates the rich history and culture of African American cowboys and cowgirls. The rodeo was founded in 1984 by Lu Vason to honor Pickett, a black cowboy who invented the technique of bulldogging (steer wrestling) and became a pioneer in the rodeo world.
In addition to the exciting rodeo performances, there will be live music, delicious food vendors serving up traditional Southern cuisine, and a variety of activities for all ages. Attendees can also browse through a marketplace featuring unique Western merchandise and crafts.
